The Process > The Difference

The steps in creating a video are pretty much the same for every production company. But with our emphasis on client care and with our goal of “No Surprises!” in the final product, we execute each step a little differently than most of our competitors. All along the way we keep you informed regarding what’s going on.. For more details, please click on the steps below.

Scheduling
Once the script is approved, if there is a deadline, we work backwards from it. A company might need a video for an event to launch a product…we plot out the number of days to shoot…we let you know what we will be doing and when.

Shot List
Unlike many video production houses, after the script is approved we give you a shot list. A shot list is a creative tool and a money-saving tool. A lot of producers keep everything in their heads. They see the entire video linearly. So if that means they have to open with footage shot in City A, followed by footage shot in City B, followed by more City A footage, they end up shuttling back and forth, shooting the video in sequential order. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true.

We, on the other hand, are demons for organization. Everything is planned for maximum efficiency. Organization and focus of this sort is good for the client as well since we always remember that it’s your money.

Rough Edit
The rough edit of a video is like a live-action storyboard. It allows you to see how your images and words interact, and to easily make revisions before the final edit. This rough-edit version can be viewed over the Internet.

Final Edit
The next step is for Direct Media to do the final edit. This is where your music, graphics and final narration are blended into your completed product. While some clients still like to sit in on the final edit, you can also opt to view each stage of the edit's progress via the Internet, from the comfort of your office.

Removing the Mystery
Finally, we are very much aware that the problem with video is that clients can’t see what they’ve bought until it is finished. They can’t see what the Writer and Producer see. (It’s not their job to do so, after all.)

At Direct Media, we take the bull by the horns. We know that you have placed your trust in us. But we also know that, if you’re a first-time client, you can’t help worrying about it not turning out right. So we make a point of taking the mystery out of it all—each step of the way.

When you work with Direct Media, you really are in control. We keep you informed at every stage. So, in the end, there will be “No Surprises!” Just solutions.
